Description

TK Bakery (formerly known as Tong Kee Brothers Confectionery) has been a household name for a few generations since its establishment. There are many bakeries in Malaysia and one has started since 1970 which is Tong Kee Brothers Confectionery (棠记兄弟饼家). This confectionery was founded by the Hoong family during the 1960s and was well established in 1970. The Tong Kee tradition has been passed down from generation to generation, from the late Hoong Wah to his siblings. And today, the confectionery is still run by the his three sons and two daughters. Tong Kee Brothers Confectionery (棠记兄弟饼家) now already have a number of branches within Klang Valley and their headquarter is in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. Most of the people around Kuala Lumpur are familiar with Tong Kee’s mouth watering egg tart of flaky pastry and eggy custard. The main reason egg tarts here are so popular is because many customer feedback that their egg custard is very soft, creamy, juicy and the outer layer is very velvety which is fluffy and crunchy. Anyway high quality food always come with a lot of preparation and persistence to the commitment. Everyday at around 2pm in the morning while most people are still sleeping, Tong Kee Confectionery starts their preparation, due to they need to prepare a lot of ingredient for different kinds of biscuits, breads and cakes. Besides, they also need to make sure when the first customer come in to their outlets at 6am, customer will be greeted by a comforting aroma of fresh egg tarts and breads. Other than the original flavor egg tarts, recently Tong Kee Brothers Confectionery (棠记兄弟饼家) have another version of egg tarts where the pastry is made with butter, which is with its buttery and crispier texture. Besides that, the chicken pie is quite famous too. The pastry is not like any pie. It is like a biscuit, yet not, slightly sweet and moist which goes well with the savory chicken filling. The filling is unusually light in color – it does not taste exceptional but when eaten with its pastry, it is perfect. Other than that, they also serve Halal egg tarts, Char Siu biscuit (叉燒酥), Lou Gong Beng (老公餅), Lou Poh Beng (老婆餅), Kaya Bun (加央角), Curry Bun (加央角), black sesame biscuit (黑芝麻酥) and many others. Apart from these main streams products, Tong Kee is also getting fair orders for festive cookies, wedding pastry (嫁女饼) and Moon Cake. Many customers actually start tasting their first bite of Tong Kee egg tart since they are young. Although the business has been started for so many years, their quality are consistently good, which brings a lot of fun and memories for many people in their breakfast and tea break for decades of years.
